Navratri 2026: how to choose Mata Rani poshak, chunri and shringar

Mata Rani poshak – yellow mirror and stone work lehenga with chunni

Sharad Navratri 2026 starts with Ghatasthapana on Sunday 11 October and ends with Navami on Monday 19 October. Dussehra follows on 20 October. Many families dress Mata Rani in a new poshak for the nine days. This guide covers what to buy and how to get the size right the first time.

1. Measure Mata Rani in inches

Mata Rani poshak is sold by the height of the murti in inches. Stand a ruler beside her and measure from the base to the top of the head (leave out the crown). A 6 inch murti takes a 6 inch poshak. If she falls between two sizes, or the murti is seated, send us a photo with the ruler beside it on WhatsApp and we will tell you the size before you order.

The full chart is in the Mata Rani size guide.

2. Choose the poshak

A Mata Rani poshak is usually a lehenga and choli with a chunni or patka. Red, yellow, orange, pink and green are the colours most families choose for Navratri. Each product page lists exactly what is in the set and the sizes in stock. See all Mata Rani poshak or the Navratri collection.

3. Add a chunri

A separate chunri is offered over Mata Rani's head or on the chowki during the puja. See our chunri.

4. Complete the shringar

  • Mukut – the crown
  • Mala – necklaces for the murti
  • Kada – bangles
  • Aasan – the seat she sits on

Ask us on WhatsApp if you are not sure a mukut or mala will suit your murti's size.

5. Order early

Every poshak is made by hand in small numbers, so popular sizes run out close to the festival. Delivery is ₹90 per order and free on orders of ₹999 and above, anywhere in India. See shipping and our returns policy, which allows a size exchange within 7 days.
